Sunday, December 14, 2014 - Third Sunday of Advent (Year B)

News and Announcements:

Coming Together
Mary was nervous and scared.
It was all new to her: marriage, motherhood.
She faced the worry with faith.  She was not alone.
God was with her.  God is with us.

Lighting of Advent Candle: #7VU
Hope is a star that shines in the night,
leading us on till the morning is bright.
When God is a child there's joy in our song.
The last shall be first and the weak shall be strong,
and none shall be afraid.

Peace is a ribbon that circles the earth,
giving a promise of safety and worth.
When God is a child there's joy in our song.
The last shall be first and the weak shall be strong,
and none shall be afraid.

Joy is a song that welcomes the dawn,
telling the world that the Saviour is born.
When God is a child there's joy in our song.
The last shall be first and the weak shall be strong,
and none shall be afraid.

Let us pray...
God of Joy, we long to know joy - joy in our families and communities: joy within our souls.  We believe that you are the source of joy.  We move toward Bethlehem with the deep desire to know you.  Amen.

Singing:  #1MV        “All Are Welcome”

Sharing the Peace of Christ:
In a spirit of community and thanksgiving, reach out to those around you and share with each other the Peace of Christ,
perhaps with the words "Peace be with you!", responding "And also with you!"

Readings from Scripture:
2nd Samuel 7:1-11,16     HB pg 281
Luke 1:46-55                   NT pg 57
In ages past, disciples, prophets, priests and historians wrote down their faith.  This is a faithful witness of our ancestors.  Word of God for us today.
Thanks be to God.

Singing:  #249VU    “Rejoice in the Lord”

Storytelling:

Music for Movement:  #10VU

make a straight path;
prepare the way of the Lord!

Giving Our Offerings:
Offering Song (#20VU-v5) and Prayer:
All praise to you, eternal Son,
whose advent has our freedom won;
and praise to God whom we adore,
with Holy Spirit evermore.
Let us pray...
Gracious God, we share from what we have as an offering of Joy. We bring tributes of time, of prayer and money to bring the wonder of the Christ-Child into the world again. Amen.

Prayers of the People:  #381VU
As we sing, pray meditatively your own prayers to God. If you like, you may come and light a candle as an act of prayer as well.
Spirit of Life, come unto me.
Sing in my heart all the stirrings of compassion.
Blow in the wind, rise in the sea;
move in the hand, giving life the shape of justice.
Roots hold me close; wings set me free;
Spirit of Life, come to me, come to me.
The Lord’s Prayer: #921VU

Singing:  #2VU         “Come Thou Long Expected Jesus”

Sending Out:
Sung Response:  #967VU
